There is no one item called a heat pump as such. It's a name for the system as a whole. It is made up of a compressor, various heat exchangers, solenoid valves, expansion valves and other components. Only one compressor is present, but where the refrigerant is allowed to expand (to absorb heat) and where it flows changes depending on what the system is doing.

It's probably not really correct to call it an AC compressor, as it does more than just cool and dehumidfy the cabin like traditional aircon does, but it looks the same and is in the same place as an AC compressor, so it's not unreasonable for someone to call it that if they're trying not to be too technical :)

Thanks Rich - I've now read your thread too, which explained everything very well. I'm not sure how the one on my old Zoe compared as I'm sure that worked to heat/cool the battery too, but I suspect it was less flexible/sophisticated. It did seem to use very little energy in winter though; hence the reason for me specifying on on my Enyaq.

They suspect that perhaps one of the valves dosen't open properly and that an overpressure builds up and causes the entire system to vibrate like crazy.

The sad part is that the new pump sounds at lower RPMs like a small petrol engine "brum brum brum".
Did they ever find out what was causing the vibrations, or was it declared as "normal behavior"?

Same thing happening intermittent on a 80x, vibrations that can be felt on steering wheel, center console / armrest etc. Before this I had rwd 60 and never had these kind of vibrations to occur. Just wondering could this be a "normal" thing for awd models or is there something wrong.
