Just a thought about aged Lab jumping into the boot. It is illegal to drive with an "untethered" dog in the car! A crate is much safer option. I have two crates on my rear seat as I don't often need rear seat space. These are tethered to the headrests. Another cautionary point: I had a friend with Standard Poodle showdogs in her boot. Her car was "rear ended" on a motorway. She was unable to open the rear door because it had been damaged in the crash. When access was eventually gained, one of the dogs in a frightened, panicking state, managed to get out and was promptly killed by passing traffic! NEVER put a dog in a boot, unless in a crate, or use a dog seat belt tethered to a rear seat anchor point! PS. It is illegal to have a dog on your knee whether in the front or rear, untethered.
