Hi all,

My 80x has now done 14000 miles (7000 with me) and has some odd tyre wear going on.

It's going in for a new set of tyres tomorrow and a full tracking to check that.

I keep the pressures checked weekly and have never been more than 0.1 bar off.

Rear tyres: very heavy wear on the inner shoulders. Rest of the tread is pretty even.

Front tyres: similar heavy wear on the inner shoulders - outers scrubbed but not surprising with the weight of the car (and the driving style of the previous owner (214 miles range when filled for the first time when I got it!).

Has anyone else had similar wear or could it just be a set-up problem on this one?

Tyre wear on the edge like that is a sign of under inflation.

What pressure you keeping them at ? This car needs a higher pressure, than what I have been used too prior.

Or tracking is out. Sure the garage will give you a definite answer.

Mine are wearing even all the way across.

My experience of driving EVs for over 8 years now is that many drivers (specifically of the Leaf) slightly over-inflate by a couple of pounds.

This is a wheel alignment issue and you are not the first one to mention this problem with the Enyaq. The weight of the car has got nothing to do with it, the tyres are specifically designed for a heavy EV. I advise everyone to keep an eye on inside tyre wear because cars are set up with a little toe out and sometimes too much!

Tyres have been kept to 2.9 bar and checked weekly.

All wheels were well out on alignment which would account for the odd wear. On low-speed tight turning there is also now a lot less scrubbing of the front tyres.

Frustrating that a £45k car can't come from the factory with straight wheels...

Hi Lard, Our have done exactly the same on the rear, only got underneath and checked after seeing this post. Where did you get your alignment done, tyre garage or main dealer? What adjustment is possible on the rear?

On the 80x the whole suspension setup can be adjusted. Assume that it's the same on the 2wd versions as the back end of the car is identical.

those tyres look older than 14000 miles....just look at the measurement bump, can't be more than 3-4mm left.

I agree Zice but that's how far they'd gone.

The previous owners enjoyed the torque quite a lot.

On the first full charge in my ownership the estimated range was 214 mile which gives an indication of how heavy their right foot was! (current estimated mileage is 290).

Will be interesting to see how the new set wear.

We've had our 60 from new since Aug21 and have 30k miles on it.

I had the offside rear tyre fail at 70mph back in July on the way to pick up my son from school. Got the tyre warning light and 'landed' safely a mile or 3 later. On inspection, both rear tyres were down to wires on the inner edge with plenty of tread on the outer visible area. While not professing to be a mechanical genius, I do make a point of basic visual inspections, keeping tyre pressures correct etc. as a matter off routine. Must admit to kicking myself for not spotting the uneven wear but to be fair I had to run my hand round the inner edge to detect it without actually crawling under the vehicle! Lesson learned though - just 'cos it's new, don't assume it's working right...

Had both tyres replaced and took it back to dealer for tracking to be checked.

They confirmed that all tracking and alignment is within tolerance.

I have told them that:
a) Skoda needs to know about this issue. I suffered what could have been a catastrophic failure (the nearside rear was in the same state as the one that failed).
b) They need to refund charges (£200!!!) for checking wheel alignment as there's clearly something wrong with the design or setup
c) Something towards the £300+ on replacement tyres would be nice (especially as they now have real-world data on a potentially dangerous issue)

Has anyone else had a similar experience?
