MarkSalmon wrote: Fri Jun 17, 2022 11:30 am I've had an on going issue with Skoda and my local dealer on this - the dealer admitted he had received other complaints - even from a guy with the matrix headlights and therefore double rear lights. Eventually, several months ago now, my dealer service manager agreed to champion this problem with Skoda on my behalf. Since then nothing. He even refuses to take my calls or call me back. What makes it worse is that my previous car, a VW Passat, had a camera that gave a brilliant view at night - as clear as day - which made reversing a doddle, so the technology exists within the group. Now, as others have suggested, we are in the habit of using the braking light to give a moderately useful view. The car is fantastic but on this issue Skoda's response has been pathetic.
My Karoq was the same brilliant image quality. My dealer just fobbed me off with I need to clean the lense blah blah....that's not the issue the issue is that the image quality at night is utter shit ! But Skoda nor a Dealer will ope my admit that it's a known issue that needs solving.

Big software update has mention of white balance fix but I doubt it'll improve it back to my Karoq standard bit that pisses me off the most is that it's not a standard bit of kit I actually had to pay extra for it FFS !

I wonder if we can also blame this on the component shortage - the camera quality is worse than in other Skoda cars because the camera is worse - in other words the component shortage has meant they made a sourcing decision to utilise an alternative cheaper / lower quality camera. This tally's with the fact I've had to remove the parking plus option with the 360 cameras on my order.... I suppose if there is any truth in my wild hypothesis the Karoq etc may / would also have lower quality cameras fitted now.... or maybe not.... ;-)

I have just had a look at the part numbers on both lights (old without lights and new) and it is exactly the same number so that must be the part number for the light housing only

So I don’t know the part number sorry

And it was very easy to physically fit to the car as it is just 3 screws and they are very easy to get too

The wiring wasn’t to bad at all if you are ok with a soldering iron, thankfully there is a small connecting wire which goes from the PCB in the light to the harness of the car and I just used that to connect to so you are not having to do any work on the wiring harness itself

I found it all pretty straight forward and even better the canbus light system hasn’t lite the warning light which is great news
Do you have any images of the wiring you carried out ?

Also where did you get the LHD light from ?

Hello BioHzrd

I’m not sure how much you can see from these pictures but here goes

The visibility has improved significantly since having 2 reverse lights, it was well worth doing.

I got the rear light from Partecha

http://www.partecha.com/

I also fitted a little light deflector under the camera to help reduce glare from the reflection from the numberplate

Which again helped a lot

Hope this helps

There are 3D printed caps available, see the difference:
3D models available here at Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5143261
or can be ordered from several people through Facebook.

Trying to fit one myself. Were you able to obtain a plug for the new light unit (if so where please), or did you make the connection another way?

My second hand light thankfully came with a small piece of wire that plugged into the light

So all I did was cut the other end off and attach longer wires

If your light fitting came without the wire I would think you would be able to get one from a dealer

Thanks for your swift response. Local dealer tells me the connector is part of the light assembly & not available separately. Have gone back to Partecha & am awaiting their response, hopefully they will find one & be able to help. Anyone replacing crash damage should be able to reuse their original connector, but that doesn’t help those of us looking to upgrade.

On a slightly different note, now that I’ve had the car for 10 months I think the reversing camera is fabulous. The ability to have such a wide, clear view of the rear of the car is amazing. As an example I have a friend who lives on the middle of a hill and on a slight bend. Using mirrors or turning your head you can’t see all the way down the hill before pulling away from the pavement outside their house. Whilst the camera sees everything.

Such a shame your light didn’t come with the small cable piece I’m surprised it didn’t as it’s quite a job to unclip it from both ends

I would say it’s a pretty standard plug used on hundreds of bits of kit

Let me know if partecha can’t help you and I’ll do some hunting for you
