I'm new to the forum.
Collecting the car in two weeks, new to EV's and today started the search for an EV Tariff.
We're with EON, and from another post was drawn to the headline rate posted of 6.9p kWh 00:00 until 07:00!
Oh thats handy me thinks ....... until I spot that my current Flex (no ties, free to move etc...) tariff charges 23.77p kWh 24/7 and their 12 month fixed EV Drive Tariff wants 28.98p kWh! With a review on July 1st imminent I'll hold off before selling my soul.
Are they not bound by the Capping regime, saving the planet, influenced by the need to transition or indeed any charitable intent to get newbies into the EV revolution?

Is there a reliable Consumer site that lays it all out, bare bones and open, to at least give the General Public a fighting chance?
Why make energy contracts so difficult?

I did get a quote from Octopus, who were also CAP+ outside the discounted hours., smaller standing charge too - it all helps.

It really depends on how much EV charging you will be doing at home and how much domestic electricity you use at peak rates. For example, I’m on Octopus Intelligent which gives me a guaranteed 6 hours per night low rate at 7.5p kWh, however, for the other 18 hours the rate is 27.5p kw. With approximately 200/250 kWh of off peak charging per month, and around 10kWh per day of domestic consumption my average cost per kWH averages out around 15/16p - considerably below the standard variable tariff of 24.5 kWh. Octopus Intelligent Go may provide additional hours of off peak charging outside of 11:30 - 05:30 window in which case all domestic usage is at the off peak rate. I also switch some domestic usage to the EV tariff time.

As far as I’m aware you can switch to Octopus Intelligent and change to another tariff or supplier without penalty. For any smart tariff you require a SMETS 2 smart meter, but if you don’t have one ask your current supplier to fit one asap, also a compatible smart charger.

I think the general consensus is that Octopus Intelligent Go is the cheapest on the market overall.

I suspect 80% of our charging will be at home as we work from home and mainly travel locally delivering family to their activities and their busying social lives. We hope to use the Enyaq in Europe for short City breaks. Its started a unique conversation about maximising the off peak rates too as well as the car. Odd that as I type I question whether I should use the term EV or car!
I'm hoping to get an electrician over to pre-survey our home electrics (another recommendation from this site) before engaging with a charge installer but completed and passed the Octopus online eligibility for its Intelligent Tariff this morning, assuming an Ohme install, although based on the Ohme survey process more depth is clearly required!

We're going to wait until the 1st, and review E.ON's newest offer, where we're in credit and setup.
The extra hour compared to Octopus could be pretty useful within the household and not just a firing up window for all the non-timer white goods, towel rails and UFH controls and electronics. We don't have a Smart Meter so we're short of knowing the usage windows.

The EV tariffs always charge more during the day.

You have to do the sums and see how it all works out.

If your a very low mileage driver it might well be cheaper charging the car on a normal tariff, especially if your using a decent chunk of household energy.

We're putting 30kwh+ a day into our cars as a minimum, so the small increase in the household use is dwarfed by the massive savings from charging the car at 7p

We've also since added a home battery, which we can charge overnight on the cheap rate. And the house already had solar, which covers the majority of the day use in the summer months anyway.

I recently had an offer from British Gas who now do an ev package.
I think they are competitive.I signed up to them .

I’m with British Gas Electric Vehicle V7 changed a couple of weeks ago from another BG tariff it is now 7.9 p between 12 and 5 and 26.44 the rest of the day. However I am on free charge which if I plug in and let my Hive EO mini pro 3 charge when it wants they cover my charge cost ( after 9 months this is coming to an end). Once Free charge finishes it automatically switches to their smart charge giving a 4ppkwh discount so if it only charges between 12 and 5 it will cost me 3.9 ppkwh.

However what really annoys me is the standing charges which for electric is approx £20 a month.

Still cheaper than diesel and petrol though.

How about OVO Energy and EDF? I heard that these are also cheap.

I currently use OVO Charge Anytime which is an add-on to a fixed tariff that is ending in September. The fixed part currently costs 22.73p unit normal electric and daily standing charge at 55p. When using Charge Anytime i.e. by using their app to control the EV charging the car charging only costs 7p/kWh. (They initially charge you at the normal rate then credit you back)

The Ovo app works either directly with the vehicle or certain chargers. The only problem, probably because my cellular signal is poor, the car doesn't get the message to start charging and I have to manually intervene by waking the car at a time when I hope/think the charge would have been running. Simply waving the key fob at the car does this. Yes this could be the middle of the night. However as this is called Charge Anytime it's less restrictive than say Octopus so I can for example plug-in early on in the day and get the car charged at a more sociable hour.

Not perfect and in my case I would prefer the more reliable control set up through my Wi-Fi enabled Zappi charger which I could do with Octopus. However being able to have the two separate tariffs I get a better price overall for the combined usage.

Worth having a look at the MSE pages and sign up for the Cheap Energy club to get some comparisons of costs across the suppliers
