Just recently received a new software update and even when it is just as bad... It was working till late today when I had to drive to the hardware store near me.

As soon as the car turned on I got a component protection is active message and it won't go away.

I googled it and found that it is the protection for old navigation systems if the brain was stolen. Then the head unit will not work.

I have restarted the system 4 times and still have the same issue.

Small Update.. If you guys run into the same issue.

Turned on the car today in the morning and the warning was gone.

Thanks. I have the same message this evening. I’m going to leave it overnight but if it persists I’ll report back (otherwise assume the overnight trick worked for me too).

Suspect this might happen if it was part way through an application update when you switched the car off, and it had updated some components but not others. After a while it'll check for updates again and find it's missing some, so restart the process - bringing everything to the correct versions.

Updates that affect the drive or instrument systems will keep the car on (but prevented from starting) until they complete. But updates to the infotainment applications can be interrupted as it's not seen as critical if you can't use the radio or map for example for a bit.

Thanks @RichR. Whatever it was, it was fine this morning and the message had gone.
