Private Plate

Has anyone tried to add private plate on their car? I already have a retention certificate. If I ask the retailer to put it on as first registration, what happens when I sell the car? Would DVLA put on a new age appropriate plate? Essentially I won't lose my plate when I sell would I?

You are correct, you just go online before you sell the car and put your private plate back onto retention. The DVLA then give you a new V5 with the age appropriate plate number for you (or the dealer) to go and get new plates. It’s very quick and easy

What Powerstar said. Done it a couple of times now and it's always been a pretty straightforward process, although IMO a little overpriced for what it must cost them to transact. Still, small beer when compared to the cost of the vehicle...
