I yesterday turned my attention to the boot. What a useful, generous, cavernous space it is! Very pleased on that score… But the so called ‘toolkit’? Oh my goodness: a twisted piece of wire for removing the plastic covers from the lug nuts (19mm a/f hex), a substantial towing eye (albeit stamped ‘Made in China’), the locking wheel nut key (17mm a/f hex), and, er, well that’s it! Apart from some tyre sealant and a mini air compressor.
The omissions? A spare wheel, a wheel wrench, a jack.
With our previously owned vehicles from VW group wheels of differing diameter on the same base car have been shod with tyres having alternative aspect ratios. This preserves-as many forum members will be aware-the gearing of the vehicle in that the rolling diameter remains the same. Our car-with the optional 20” wheels-comes shod with different sized tyres front and rear. The spare-when I source it-will rob some of that lovely space in the boot. Possibly another trip to the spare wheel specialist in Manchester will be in order. (And yes thank you I am aware of PCD, offset, central bore, etc.)
As far as the wheel wrench is concerned Halfords usefully sold (might still do) a well made telescopic handled wrench equipped with a double headed 17x19mm socket. Perfect. Mine now resides in the brolly space with a couple of bits of sponge to stifle rattles.
The jack? Given that the car has a mass in excess of 2.6 tonnes this will need to be up to the job. I’m thinking one of those lightweight aluminium trolley jacks or a substantial scissor jack.
I’ll return to how the ‘Made in China’ topic relates to the Enyaq another time.

Very few modern cars have a spare wheel. It's a lot of weight and means that it reduces the economy figures. You get breakdown cover for at least the first year with new cars, so for most people it isn't an issue. Of course you do always have the option to buy and carry your own, but that choice is now let to the consumer.

My current and previous two cars haven't had spare wheels, only a compressor and sealant. Which I can confirm does work well for punctures caused by running over a nail :) Yes it's no use if the tyre bursts, but that's what breakdown cover is for.

Yep, aware of all that thanks. Don’t like it though. Perhaps I didn’t make the point strongly enough that despite being my most expensive brand new car to date (been motoring 55 years) this one has by far the meanest, most limited, toolkit.

Out of interest, what tyres have Skoda fitted as standard for the different size wheels (19" / 20" / 21")? Can anyone who actually has their cars delivered shed any light on this?

My Kodiaq has Pirelli Scorpion Verde Seal Inside fitted from new (now at 24.8k miles from new, and I will probably need 2 new front ones in around 2-3k miles), so I reckon they're OK for longevity, I haven't had any issue with handling and as I live in the South West UK, no real need for A/S tyres. As they have the seal inside tech built in to the tyre, it gives a degree of protection over getting a nail or screw in the tread, but then if you did and the seal inside did its job, how would you know, unless you heard the tick-tick-tick of the nail hitting the road as the wheel turned?

Never had the need to use the sealant and compressor option - my wife's Merc C Class has that rather than a spare wheel, but sadly the one time she did get a nail in a tyre and it deflated completely, she decided to just drive the 500 yards back to our drive to get me to sort it out. I suspect it was already flat when she set off, but driving that 1000 yards effectively wrote the tyre off as the inner surface of the sidewall was so worn that it was not possible to repair the tyre, even though it was just a nail in the centre of the tread. It looked OK from the outside, but you could see huge cracks and wear on the inner surface, so £120 later, she had a brand new tyre (instead of the £10 repair bill...) Thankfully she didn't damage the alloy or it would have been even more!

I ‘ll answer your question in respect of my own vehicle when it ‘s a bit drier outside than it presently is! From memory the back tyres are 20mm wider and the aspect ratio is greater to compensate/equalise the rolling diameter. (The plan is to use /acquire a biscuit spare that may be used if necessary at limited speed on either front or rear).

Oh, and the tyres are Nexens by brand which I am a bit dubious about-having had tyres by the sister Sth Korean company on a Sorrento. They self destructed…

I'd read somewhere that the front and rear tyres were not the same width, but from the configurator, this isn't at all obvious.

On the 'Wheels' page of the configurator, you can select which size of wheels you want (19", 20" or 21") and below each one is a link for the tyre label. For 19" or 21", the only information given is a single tyre size and either Bridgestone or Pirelli tyres. My understanding is that this isn't a choice you can make, but they will fit one of those two types of tyre. For the 20" wheels there is also a Hankook option.

Details are as follows:
19": 235/55R19 101T, either Pirelli Scorpion or Bridgestone Turanza Eco+ (AO)
20": 235/50R20 100T, one of Pirelli Scorpion, Hankook Ventus S1evo3 ev (K127E) or Bridgestone Turanza Eco+ (AO)
21": 235/45R21 101T XL, same tyre choices as the 19".

Strange that you've ended up with Nexens then...

Tyres fitted to our car are by Hancook (which is a sister company to Nexen) and yes I did get it the wrong way round earlier. Apologies. Sizes are 255/45x20 at the rear and 235/50x20 at the rear. My math indicates a sidewall height of 114.75mm to the rear and 117.5mm to the front-as near as makes no difference in practical terms. What I will find interesting is the sizes they fit to the AWD versions.

In answer to tyre sizes on 4WD, my 80x has Hankook 235/50R20 on the front and 255/45R20 on the rear.

Can i confirm if everyone has a compressor and tub of sealant? We don't have either of these in the boot that I can see. We had the self sealing bridgestones on delivery. These were recently replaced with "Non-Sealing" goodyears. I questioned what I now do with a puncture as I believe you should have a method of repairing this yourself. My response was that this is not the case and that most modern cars have no way of repairing a puncture, basically rely on breakdown services.
