My iV60 just had its first 24 month service and the front brake pads are shown as 20% worn at 13,000 miles. Just wondered if this is normal as thought EV brakes were good for 100,000 plus miles but guess this depends on the type of driving undertaken - mine is mainly short journeys with a lot of stop start.

My LEAF needed all new disks and pads at around 60k and 5ish years old, not because they were worn out, but because they were just corroded and knackered.

Brake parts are cheap enough, but they dont last forever. If you dont wear them out then you'll end up needing to replace them anyway as the car ages.

Skoda claim the brakes should last life of car?

Interesting to see how they have sorted disc corrosion issues seen on other cars. Skoda garage wanted to change my front discs at 2 years old due to corrosion on rear faces. Visible face was perfect though!

Could they be using stainless steel discs? Is that even possible? Mine still look like new at 6k miles.

Stainless steel is a pretty weak material compared to regular steel and nothing like as strong as higher tensile specialist steels. It's a pity because stainless disks would be great on an EV otherwise.

They published an article, a while ago:
https://www.skoda-storyboard.com/en/sko ... -to-brake/
See the section "Drums and cooling from Mladá Boleslav".
I don't think they have done much more than what is described there, which is adopting drum brakes for the rear axle.

I suppose the only best practice to deal with surface corrosions on the front disc brakes is to disable regen regularly and use std braking for a little while. I don't remember any specific feature for that, on the Enyaq.
