I've never had a completely new car and I'm fed up with my old banger constantly breaking down :( I've got the option of an Enyaq on lease via work and it seems too good to be true! I need to sort out a test drive, to be sure, but I'm overwhelmed with all the options (not usually an issue when buying secondhand from car supermarkets :lol: ).

Can anyone help with some of my queries please?

1: 60 vs 80? Is the extra range really all that in the real world? I live in the cold North of England, so I'm guessing I won't be getting the top mileage per charge anyhow.

2. With Loft, Suite etc - is it just the trim that is different or do the different specs come with other extras?

3. What are your must-have Packs? I have young children, so I'm thinking:
* Family package plus
* Climate package basic
* Parking package - basic or plus? (IIRC the 80 already comes with the basic but the 60 has it as an add-on...)
* Any others? I'm not entirely sure what all the lane/driving gizmos are so not sure if I need them. And is Infotainment Package Plus worth it?

4. Do they all come with SatNav or is that an added extra? On some of the brochures it says they all have it but the website and packs info isn't clear.

5. Does anyone have thoughts on the 100kw charging or heat pump as added extras?

6. Is it true you can warm and cool the Enyaq up in advance of getting in?!! Is this on all models? All very surreal to me - like K.I.T.T. off Knightrider :lol:

7. Does anyone know how easy it is to find charging points in Ireland please? We visit family there and my dad is convinced that because it is 99% countryside they don't have any chargers :roll: I've had a look online but can't find much info. Guess I'm worried about driving more rurally (to places like the Lake District) and finding myself unable to charge up.

In a perfect world I would go for top end everything but need to keep the costs sensible. I'm not fussed about fancy tyres and trims but things like parking sensors, warmth and keeping the kids happy are a priority :D

Hi there,

Just to give my personal opinion quickly on a few of your questions:

60 vs 80. I originally went for the 60 but ‘chickened out’ and opted for the extra 50 or so miles which the 80 apparently gives. I have a fairly regular commute from Surrey to Manchester (220 miles in one direction) so getting there in one run suits me - and I can worry about charging for the home run later ! In normal times we’d also travel through Europe once or twice a year, so the little extra range is a bit more reassuring. Very expensive though to get an 80 instead of a 60. No Boris grant!

Trim Levels - indeed in the UK and possibly Ireland, vehicular functions and features are the same although in the (continental) EU, the Loft spec doesn’t have the LED light strip on the dash; we do get this in the UK however. Having kids though, the Suite or Eco Suite might be easier to wash ! I would definitely recommend trying to take a look at the Loft trim on a demo car- it’s surprisingly impressive for the base trim.


Packs - I’m a bit rusty on what they include now, as I placed my order in May, but I didn’t bother with the Convenience Pack; £700 or so just to get tinted windows (bundled with expensive keyless entry) ! I’m having tints added after I get the car for £200.

Comfort pack is electric seats I think? Maybe important if more than one person will be driving your car, so you can easily recall your preferences at the touch of a button. I’d have gone for this as my car will be used by colleagues (unfortunately) but I couldn’t afford it - 21” alloys were more appealing :-)

I did go for Drive Assist Basic - I like the idea of a few extra ‘eyes’ looking out for me, like the warning lights in the wing mirrors if something is overtaking.

I’ve gone for heated seats throughout (climate pack plus?) as I’ve heard it’s less demanding on the battery to heat the seats rather than the whole interior- without much detriment to comfort.

I didn’t get the Heat Pump as there was a bit of confusion at the time as to what it actually does. I think this has been clarified now. I did get the 125kW charging option although not many places charge at this rate !

It’s a big lump - so the rear view camera will be handy, as well as sensors on the front. I think the 60 only has sensors on the back as standard (but front sensors and a rear camera are included on the 80)

One thing to bear in mind, as you’ve mentioned it’s a company car. You’ll probably only be able to claim 4 pence per business mile, but recharging at service stations will likely set you back 30 pence per kW or more, which roughly equates to 12 pence per mile - so you’ll be out of pocket (but paying far less BiK tax which should offset this by a long way!)

Hi there, I agree with what 'EV does it' and just to add if you use the AppZap Map, it shows the coverage in Southern Ireland as well as UK. my Enyaq 80 was ordered in Late May and is due around mid October, (well at the moment).

To answer a few of your other questions:

Satnav - it pairs with your mobile via Bluetooth and can use either Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. It also has a much clunkier built in satnav.

Remote Aircon - it can do this but doesn't always work for me...the car has to be online and connected for this to work. In poor mobile areas my car sometimes drops off the network.

Packs - personally I love the HUD, which I think was in the infotainment pack back when I ordered. It's so handy for navigation.

Hopefully answers to some of your questions:

1. 60 vs 80 depends on 2 things - firstly how much you'd like Boris to pay £2500 towards your new car (only available on the 60) and secondly how much you think you'll need the extra range. If you're likely to do lots of journeys of around 200-250 miles, then there's a better chance of making it without recharging if you have the 80. Then again, you only have to increase that journey to 300-350 miles and you'd have to recharge the 80 at some point to make it anyway...

2. Yes, they are just differences in trim, they don't bring any additional equipment afaik.

3. Do you really need the family package plus, or would the basic version do? We had fold up tables in our old Touran when our twins were younger and they hardly got used. The kids won't get any benefit from the sleep package (fold down sides to the rear headrests to support your head), so I'd be surprised if they ever got used. Also, if you can afford it, go for the Climate Package Plus - the heated windscreen is a godsend on a winter's morning (unless you park your car in a garage - then don't bother!). Parking package basic is more than adequate (and you're right, it's included in the 80). If you want the Parking Package Plus then you have to add the Assisted Drive Package, either Basic or Plus, but that's an additional cost to factor in.

4. All cars come with the Satnav and a 13" screen as standard (although confusingly it is included in the list of items in the Infotainment Package Plus, which actually only adds the HUD).

5. I would add both if you can afford them - the 100 or 125kW charging (60 or 80) is going to reduce the time you spend waiting for charging and whilst there is currently limited availability of rapid chargers, they are installing new ones all the time, so they will become more common. The heat pump will (in theory) give you greater range in the winter months by heating the interior of the car in a more energy efficient way (it's effectively a fridge in reverse, which is better than just using power from the battery to heat the air coming in directly).

6. Not sure about this, but think it's been answered already.

7. Zap-map.com is your answer - whilst it touts itself as a map of all UK charging points, it also covers ROI, where the charging points are definitely fewer and farther between, but the country isn't totally devoid of charge points!

Hope that helps - for what's included as standard, on the 'Versions' tab on the online configurator where you select one of the 60, 80, 80 Sportline or 80x Sportline models, there's a little information link that will list what's included as standard. Worth a look through so that you know what you're getting. The LED Ambient Lighting is included in the basic Loft trim (at least it is in the UK according to the configurator). See screen grab below with the red circle highlighting the link - it's a bit hidden!

Only thing I’d add is that after owning a BMW i3 for 3-years we’ve never used an ice scraper as we pre-condition before departure. Not only does this warm the battery and car interior but also defrosts the windscreen. Therefore I’m not too sure how useful a heated windscreen will be unless you need to get going outside of a scheduled time.

This is why we left the heated screen off. Condition the cabin pre-departure and the screen will be clear anyway. 99% of our driving will be from our drive so covers us nicely.

I dropped the heated windscreen and rear seats as although it was 'nice to have', it's not essential. As above - running a timer to pre-heat the car for 10 minutes before you normally set off has meant an end to clearing ice and snow from the windows (still need to do the bonnet and roof). The one time a heated screen does come in handy is on a cold day if you have a damp coat on - it'll stop the windscreen steaming up without having to run the heater and fans on high. I did think having heated rear seats would mean I could use less heating when I had rear seat passengers, but actually just having four adults in the car probably means the heating won't have to work as hard anyway. So I used the money I'd saved on the Climate Plus option, and also Family Pack Basic (I'd never use the blinds, and a USB extension cable is a quid), meant I could spend it on an option I would get more use out of, such as the HUD or Transport Package.

It's all about working out what options you consider essential, nice to have, not bothered or never. Then have a play with the configurator and your budget to see what combination works best.

Ah yes, I hadn't considered that, I'll probably not add the heated screen when I order my car early next year. I guess on the same basis, the heated steering wheel is a bit redundant as well, unless you happen to suffer from Raynaud's disease like my sister, in which case a heated steering wheel is almost essential in the winter!
