Very similar story to the OP, with a small screw embedded in the nearside rear. I'm in Italy so I found a nearby Pirelli specialist in Viterbo, near where I'm staying. They removed the screw and pushed the repair material in from the outside, without having to dismount the tyre. Cost €15. Immaculate...
